Synthesis of Alkyl Citrate Natural products

Our group have been actively pursuing the total synthesis of complex fungal metabolites such as the alkyl citrate family of natural products. They come from the chemical modification of citric acid, and have shown potent inhibition of squalene synthase (SSase), a key enzyme implicated in the biosynthesis of cholesterol. Our group has successfully synthesised a variety of members within this family, including the highly oxidized Zaragozic Acid C.

AlkylC2

Currently our group is interested in the total synthesis of CJ-13,981, CJ-13,982 and L-731,120, starting from commercially available 2-deoxy-ribose.
